All IRVs are:

• issued with a membership certificate;
• have a five digit membership number preceded by the initials IRV (the final two digits represent the year in which they were elected);
• if you can't find a valuer on this website they are not an IRV.

Look out for the Institute's logo which is incorporated in the valuation stickers used by IRVs. 

 

IMPORTANT You should only accept a valuation prepared by the NAMED IRV found on this site and not one prepared by another person acting on behalf of the retailer.  This is in accordance with Institute requirements.  If you are presented with a valuation that is by a non-IRV you should refuse to accept it and ask for it to be re-done by the IRV listed.

 

Please note that the valuer may not be based at the address shown.  A number of  our IRVs are valuers in private practice or are employed by valuation companies* and they provide retail jewellers who do not have a valuer on their staff with a valuation service (this is particularly relevant to the multiple retail jewellers such as H Samuel, Goldsmiths, Ernest Jones, F Hinds, etc).  It is suggested that you telephone the shop to check if you wish to meet or speak with the valuer personally.

*One of these companies, SafeGuard of Birmingham, employs IRVs Alan Heyes, James Potts, Phil Withington and Joanne White so if you find their names come up in your search results they WILL NOT be available to speak with you at the address(es) shown - with the exception of SafeGuard's HO in Birmingham of course.
